The Ashland House: An Update

Did you notice the new back door? The trim on the window to the right of it will be painted to match. The decking is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Good times!

On Monday we had inspections for the fire sprinklers and the insulation and both passed.  Woo Hoo!!! That means the drywall installation can start.

Piles of Drywall

There are piles of drywall such as these all over the house. The upstairs has just as many sheets (if not more). The installers are starting upstairs and working their way down.

In an ideal world it will take the drywall guys one week to hang it and another to tape it. With the (American) Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow it will probably wind up being a 2 1/2 week project. After all the taping is done the walls will be primed.

Speaking of primer…  The carpenters have started putting our cedar siding up (it’s pre-primed).  If the weather turns and we don’t get around to having the siding painted it will last through the winter just fine.

Sout Side Siding

The pre-primed siding is in the foreground. The angle of the picture isn’t good because on the ONE DAY I don’t wear my pink wellies there is mud everywhere.  I had to balance on the frame of the deck to get this shot.  But don’t cry for me Argentina! Life is good. 🙂

I’ve learned two important things during this project. The first of which is if you are told that your project is going to take X amount of months to complete you probably should add 6-8 weeks on to the end. The second is when you plan your budget (Budget – I don’t need no stinkin’ budget! Um. Yes I do.) you should figure out the absolute most you can afford AND THEN ADD 20%. Where will this 20% come from if you have already committed the absolute most you can afford in the first place? I hear medical research studies pay well.

As always, thanks for reading and have a Joyful Day!
